Kemp Contract Update
Agent Dave Stewart told XM Radio that contract negotiations with the Dodgers for center fielder Matt Kemp are progressing, with the focus on a two-year deal:
"We've been talking about a multi-year deal. The Dodgers, yeah, we've gone back and forth a few times in trying to get something done. ...You know, the closer we get to that filing date which is coming Monday the more likely we are to get a deal done. Our conversations have been good and I think what clearly comes out in our talks is that we both, both the team and the player, want to try to get something done where the player will remain in Los Angeles for a period of time. And it's just a matter of time, I think, before we come up with something."
Stewart suggested that "the uncertainty of ownership" is the reason the term of the deal would be short. -- Ken Gurnick
