11/20 Cubs & Blue Jays talk re: Halladay

The Cubs are one of the teams the Blue Jays have contacted regarding pitcher Roy Halladay. However, before Cubs fans start salivating at the prospect of the former Cy Young winner in the rotation with Ted Lilly, Carlos Zambrano, and Ryan Dempster, there's a catch. He's owed $15.75 million in 2010, and the Blue Jays want some of the Cubs' top prospects. No. 1, the team can't take on Halladay's salary. The Blue Jays apparently have a wish list and Milton Bradley is not on it. A player like highly regarded shortstop Starlin Castro most likely is, and the Cubs don't want to part with him, especially since they might only have Halladay for one year. The right-hander was 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA this season, and is a free agent after 2010. One thing the Blue Jays did make clear to the Cubs is they want to move Halladay this offseason.

If the cubs can acquire Halladay sending Hoffpauier and few other prospects..........then send Jake Fox and Bradley for Curtis Granderson the cubs i think would be champions obviously with a good and healthy Soriano, Ramirez, Lee and Soto....

fairly big if's huh? Also, No possible way they can do both of those deals, as no matter what they do with the great milton bradley they are going to have to pay the majority of his salary. Which will make it very difficult to pay halladay and granderson as well..

Toronto trying to get in bidding war with this guy great pitcher can't sell the farm though.

What dream world are you living in? "Hoffpauier and few other prospects." for Halladay? Why not just offer them a sack of balls? It would take pretty much all of our good prospects to get Halladay and that ain't happenin. Plus, why on earth would Detroit trade Granderson for Fox and Bradley? Would you make that deal if you were Detroit? I admire your optimism if nothing else.

I really don't even understand why anyone from Toronto would even call on this.

The Blue Jays nor Cubs are looking to add significant salary. The only way this could work would be via a 3 way (+) trade with perhaps Zambrano being the bait to another team.

But even then, would that be tough with Zambrano's restrictions.

Its not gonna happen, the cubs dont have enough money

The Cubs would have to offer the Blue Jays more, for this trade to work, the Cubs would have to offer Wells a very good young pitcher, Toronto would have to take on Bradley who they could deal. The Cubs would have to throw in another good player with upside, like Jeff Smardjia for Halladay.

the cubs need halliday but can not afford him with what the blue jays want too much for a re building team like the cubs. The cubs are better off without him.
