Dodgers, Jones reach agreement
Andruw Jones and the Dodgers have reached an agreement to defer much of his remaining salary while virtually assuring he will not be with the club in 2009. Jones will either be traded or released before the start of Spring Training and perhaps sometime this month, according to an industry source.
The agreement will allow Jones a fresh start elsewhere after a nightmare of a first season and provide the Dodgers with additional payroll flexibility that could be used to re-sign free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez.
The Major League Baseball Players Association approved the unusual agreement because Jones will receive his entire salary, as well as the possible benefit of free agency should he be released.

I really don't understand this thing but I hope the Dodgers release him or if they trade him, let it be for a pitcher.
It is good for both sides, since the outfield is so crowded.

this is a good first step. now, with the money freed up, go sign manny to 3 years with an option for another. Maybe there's a team out there who'll jump for a bargain Andruw Jones in exchange for a journeyman pitcher, someone who could swing between the pen and some starts. Odds are slim, I realize, but there might be someone who wants to get Jones before he goes on the market.

I loved watching Andruw Jones patrol centerfield for the Atl Braves for 11+ seasons.. He was the best defensive centerfielder in the game and in my opinion maybe 1 of the top 5 ever!!! Yes i said it and I know there will be people that disagree with me and throw Edmonds name out there.. Yes Edmonds was great and made amazing catches all the time but Andruw would glide and cover so much ground and make it look so effortless!! I hope Andruw finds a place and is able to return to the 10 time gold glove form he should in Atl from 98-07.. Yes thats 10 gold gloves all in a row folks!!! Maybe he will end up back in Atl but it would have to be at a much cheaper price they are looking for an of right handed power bat!!! If the price is right he is definatly worth the chance!! It wouldnt surprise me if the sox looked into him either... With the monster in left that could be just what he needs and the bat they need to protect Big Papi... Just a thought haha!!

Great now Jones can come back to Atlanta and get the outfield back on track i hope Frank Wren will look into this because let's be honest it wont hurt them any more than they are right know. He'll get back to hitting home runs and making great catches.

I think Jones should still be considered one of the greatest defensive outfielders of all time. It is just his time to go. He is getting run down and beat up but that could be from diving so often and always running into walls. That stuff takes a toll on you later in your career. He could be a decent outfielder still if he just lost some weight. I don't think he is going to though.

Jones return to atlanta sounds like a great idea as long as the price is right.. Give time for either Jordan Shafer or Gorkys hernandez to finish developing and not pressure them maybe give 1 of them some time in left and get major league at bats before he takes over center like the sox did with elsberry!! I really think he will be fine wherever he lands this year.. Every player has a year of injuries now and then.. That doesnt mean they cant bounce back and produce again.. Jones will bounce back and hopefully its in atl!! Go get that outfield bat Wren he is waiting there for you!!

I'm a long time braves fan and a huge supporter of Andruw Jones, but I can't say I want him back on the team unless he can be obtained extremely (and I'm talking extrememly) cheap. He's out of shape, leading me to believe his fielding will not be what it used to be, And according to scouts from the winter leagues he still looks very bad at the plate. And there is no designated fielder position in baseball that can accomodate a lousy batter with a good glove (trust me, I know because thats the way I am and I definitely am not going to get any offers). Unfortunately it looks like Andruw's time in baseball may be ready to end.

Andrew Jones does deserve another chance with the Braves. They would work with his swing again and he is the best possible center fielder, if he comes back in shape they could poassibility have on the roster. Also he is one of the old horses, even though he is only 31, that would great to assemble closer to the previous lineup of only a few years ago. Can you see a hungry Andrew get his glove back and start hitting again. Bobby needs to give him a chance because Atlanta has a need to fill cf and Andrew needs another chance. Compare his lifetime to other 31 year old players at their time. Andrew has pretty good numbers and still could reach say 500 or more home runs before retiring,

Who knows where he will go. The Mets and Reds are not interested. I say he will get released and some team may take a chance instead of trading for a big slugger and hope he can return to his old self.

Well the braves should be atleast pondering ... about bringing him back. if he is released, the braves should sign him to league min or no more than 1 mil. hell its worth a shot to see if he can comeback somewhat. we havent done a damn thing so far to help the team. its really fustrating........ we've added a backup catcher and a #2 starter, and a pinch hitter. we need 2 more starters, and a power bat in outfield. still we havent resigned Ohman......... do not sign Lowe!!! 16 mil a year lmao get Garland and Perez

I am a true dodger fan. i have done my research. for the dodgers to win they need to pick up Ian Snell from the Pirates as a fifth starter. and for bullpen help John Grawbow from the Pirates also. And if any dodger main office person who can make this trade happen while you're out getting people pick up Adam Lind from Toronto. Trade Pierre and Jones and some minor leaguers but nobody you need to win with, thats just a stupid move.
