Torre: Pettitte not coming to Dodgers
Andy Pettitte wants to pitch for the Yankees, and the Yankees want him. But if the free agent left-hander is not unable to avoid a dip in salary next year, the idea has been floated of suiting up out west for an old friend.
Except Joe Torre does not believe that it will happen. Torre told Newsday that he is not expecting Pettitte to come to the Dodgers, despite the fact that the two spoke recently about Los Angeles. Pettitte turned down a one-year, $10 million pact from the Yankees after making $16 million in 2007 and 2008.
"I talked to Andy," Torre told the newspaper in a telephone interview. "His agent had called the Dodgers to find out about interest, and that's when I called him. I had talked to Andy much earlier, asking him to come to my (Safe at Home) Foundation dinner. He was always married to the Yankees, the excitement playing for the Yankees.
"I called him only because his agent called (Dodgers' GM) Ned (Colletti). I certainly would've kicked myself (if I hadn't called). He never said no to anything, but just from talking to him, I know the Yankees are his first choice. I wasn't about to talk him out it, knowing Andy like I do."

Pettitte would have been a very good addition to the Dodgers' starting rotation!

Pettitte is too old, the Dodgers don't need him, there are other pitchers on the market and through trades that I would like to see them get... Jake Peavy, A.J. Burnett just to name a few

Pettitte turned down $10 million ??? Does he really think he's going to get more at his age and with the crap season he just turned in !! He's not only over the hill physically but obviously his grey matter is suffering the effects too !!
