Taveras, Wigginton, Miles interest Reds
After the non-tender list was revealed late Friday night, there were some names that the Reds could pursue. Among those that pique Cincinnati's interest were outfielder Willy Taveras, utility player Ty Wigginton and infielder Aaron Miles.
"Miles, if we don't sign [Jerry] Hairston," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said during a break from Redsfest on Saturday afternoon. "Wigginton if we don't find the outfielder we want. Taveras could be the center fielder -type guy."

Ray`s could use Wigginton again. He was very popular in his first stint and would fill a need as a right handed right fielder with some power.

Taveras is faster than most vehicles on the road ... why he isn't signed already surprises me.

Please!!! Taveras not being signed is due to his inability to do something on offense other than steal a base. Avg. is OK and he can play D, thanks to his speed, but Dude has less than 120 SB in his career (nearly 70 in 2008) and is closing in on 400 Ks, in just over 4 years. With his speed, some of those singles should be doubles and triples, right?.....so, is he dogging it, or just doesn't have the fire in his belly? Learn HOW to steal---AND pay attention, choke up on the bat and quit trying to kill everything, as witnessed by so many highlights on SportsCenter.....Taveras, striking out, killing another rally for the Astros or Rocks. Still has a great deal of upside, but he needs to get a clue on how to utilize his talents to his and his team's advantage. I think that Seattle should have taken a flyer on him and he could have learned from Ichiro. In that park, could have been fun to see!

I think oakman is right, Taveras needs to stop trying to be a slugger, and start being a consistent hitter. This would allow him to use the speed that he's been given. I think a stint with the Reds would do that for him. It's a team that needs, and would get some fandom from a speed demon if he could grow on it.
