More on Greene
While neither the Cardinals nor the Padres are willing to confirm that a deal is done, the details are taking shape.
MLB.com has learned that in exchange for Greene, the Padres are expected to receive right-handed reliever Mark Worrell, who made his Major League debut in a brief stint in 2008, and a player to be named later.
Again, the i's have not been dotted, and the t's not crossed, just yet. Nothing is done until it's done. But that's where it stands as of now.

He ain't no O. Smith or D. Eckstein... but he's got the potential to be better than both. Let's see it happen.

Maybe with Green gone from the Pads, they would be more likely to try and deal Peavy for ATL's Escobar plus prostect, who was the center piece of the deals earlier in the off-season. Just thinking about how this could affent Peavy's position in any deal, and that of the Braves trying to get Burnett...hmmm.

You are right Jeff, greene is not ozzie but eckstein? What kind of baseball fan puts eckstein in the same sentence as ozzie?? Greene is already better the Eckstein... A LOT BETTER!!! I think this was a great move for the cardinals and solidifing their infield.. Now maybe the cards will throw in a prospect and send Ludwick to atlanta for K Johnson.. That will make room for Rasmus and complete their infield needs.. As for flintrock I agree with you about the padres may contact atl again if they havent already!! Peavy would be a huge addition to atl but Escobar has the potiential to be GREAT!!! Its a steep price but if furcal could stay healthy it might be worth it.. Or maybe see them make a run at cabrera

Not sure the Braves will deal Escobar now that they sent the backup, not sure of name, to the White Sox. They would be without ****. Heck, maybe they'd sign Isturiz or Eck. LOL
Not sure Cards should trade Ludwick because the OF is loaded with LH bats.
I like this move. It didn't cost any player from the 40 man roster and Greene's salary is only about $6.5 mil and he is only 29. Compared to Renteria signing with the Giants for $18.5 mil for two years and he is 33. And Edgar has never hit 27 HRs or had 97 RBIs in a season. And Greene has made less than a total of 30 errors over the last 3 years.
And it still leaves about $15 mil for free agents and arbitration.
If Greene has a good year give him an extension for 8-10 mil a year. Make it for 3-4 years and he'd still only be 33-34 at the end of the contract. He turned down a 4 year $29 mil deal with the Padres. Maybe he'd sign for 4 years $32 mil?

WOH'S THE WINNER? Khalil Green. Belive it or not cardnail' fans this is the poor-mans Tulo. He thrived on a competive Padres club (06-07), and he will do so under the INTESNCE tuteage of Tony LaRusa. Green is a competater and this trade will make everyone forget David Ecstien Exsisted, Renteria was better in St.Louis anyway. (They must sign him to an extention now!!). OH Yeah, im also a CUBS FAN.

Well, I do think this is a great move for Green and the Cards, but to forget David "X-Factor" Eckstein, or Edgar Renteria? Now that will take a lot to make X's World Series MVP forgotten. I'm not saying Green can't do it, but he is NOT the second coming of Ozzie Smith (in sheer awesomeness and fan support). Getting green out of the Home Run cemetary, aka Petco Park, is a huge boost to the guy who can really knock the ball around. But, with his low numbers last year [because of a) playing in Petco, b) broke his hand punching things in the dugout] I just hope he remembers how to be the Kahlil Green of two years ago.
Go Bravos!

People would never forget JOE SHMOE if he had a great four games in the world series. Green is definatly not Ozzy, but with what power-hitting shortstops make the Card's need to sign him before he has a breakout season going into free agency.
