Mets to dance with Wolf?

For now, the void in the Mets' starting rotation is filled only with uncertainty. The New York Daily News suggests it could be filled by Randy Wolf instead.

In its Monday editions, the paper mulls that possibility. Without citing a source, it identifies the Mets signing the lefthanded veteran starter as "another strong possibility."

Wolf, the paper says, is likely to sign sooner that fellow free agent Oliver Perez, which would solve the Mets' rotation riddle earlier.

With their bullpen dramatically improved last week, the Mets now seek to address the vacancies in their rotation. Perez could return; general manager Omar Minaya says the chances are 50-50. Or the Mets could import Wolf. Chances of both happening appear slim, though the only apparent certainties in the rotation number three -- Johan Santana, Mike Pelrey and John Maine. Rookie Jon Niese is only a possibility.

Wolf, 32, might be cheaper than Perez. Signing him, rather than the younger and more erratic Perez, could leave the Mets some money for other, minor additions, the News says. With Scott Schoeneweis gone, the Mets need another lefthanded reliever.

The mets are doing it again. Every year they have one issue, one possition that will bring them the crown. Yes their relief pitching let them down. But how many of their starters went over 6 innings which put a lot of pressure on the Bull Pen the last two seasons. How many times did a batter come up with the game on the line and fail. As good as JR, DW, CB, CD are they are not the level of the MR of the world who do it when it counts. So this year we will go again with the 6 inning pitchers and over tax them so they too are tired at the end. Our team needs a redo just like the Yankees and the Braves are trying at all possitions. Only the Mets need one position a year. We need two pitchers who don't know how to lose like Santana. We need a hiter that doesn't know how to lose.
In short the Mets need a franchise hitter , relief pitcher and two starters. They have one starter and two relief pitchers. They need a franchise starter and hitter to add to what they have to go all the way.

You have a solid 8th - 9th inning core now ... but saves are recorded only when you have a lead. Starting pitching is key and in the NL .. you need a guy to go at least 6 innings.

Very very true statements... how many saves is krod going to get if teh starters give up 5 runs per 9 good points but the mets have their young core in tact w/ wright and reyes. yea they could add another bat to that lineup to solidify it but they got their franchise players already .. they tried to do it w/ moises alou.. beltran is still productive but not as nearly the way he was prior adn delgado was terrable honestly everyone coutned him out and he turned it around and proved everybody wrong but i think the grey hairs on his head indicate that there aren't to many of those years left so the Mets do haev some work to do w/ their lineup i dont know if this free agency class is where they should improve from.

i hope the mets sign wolf so my braves can go after oliver perez

You no what this is terrible the mets land on too great relievers in K-Rod and Putz which the bullpen was a big problem for them last year and now this year they are making the starting rotation weak. I think that the mets really need to sign derek lowe because i think that maine would be alot better as 3rd in the Mets rotation with Santana then Lowe. I think that Lowe needs to lower his offer a little bit so that he can get more teams involved in signing him because hes a veteran pitcher. But if the mets get Randy Wolf forget about it the mets wont get to the playoffs again until Santana gets some help in the rotation. Look at what the yankees did they got sabathia and right after they got burnett. Why arent the mets doing this i dont know but all i know is come september time with 17 games left in the season its gonna happen again and for another year the mets are going to get laughed at and me along with many met fans are gonna get very angry

WE had starting pitching needs to we addressed them w/ CC and AJ... you guys needed bullpen help and i think you guys didi pretty damn good w/ Krod then Putz a day later...yea a few holes opened up in your rotation but you got 3 good starters in Santana, Maine, Pelfry, lowe would be a gerat addition and i'd be happy if he doesn't go to Red Sox. and Sheets to why dont they look into him. Take a small risk chance w/ Daniel Cabrera he has al the tools just can't put it together . I love the off season
