Mets meet with K-Rod
Call it ambition, desire or just plain need, but the Mets wasted little time pursuing their top free-agent targets at the Winter Meetings.
Merely hours after landing in Las Vegas on Sunday night, general manager Omar Minaya met with closer Francisco Rodriguez, according to a person familiar with the situation. Minaya is expected to make concrete offers to many of the team's top free-agent targets before the conclusion of the meetings.
"In the next four days, we will probably be more aggressive with dialogue with agents," Minaya said earlier Sunday, before meeting with Rodriguez. "And at the same time, we have some potential trades that are out there that we might be able to get done."

Love to hear about the "genius deals"Minaya is about to make. I'm sure they'll give too much money to a guy who will factor in to about 45 games. It's nice to have a great closer but what good will it do to give 50 mil to a closer when your starting (what starting pitchers?) wont make it past the 5th inning. Advice to Minaya (from someone who doesnt want to see you guys do well) your putting the carriage before the horse.Go after some starting pitching first then get a closer. wont make much sense if your closer saves you 45 games and you only win 80. but hey im no GM, you keep doing your magic.
