Marlins shopping Treanor?
According to league sources, for a little more than a week the Marlins have been shopping catcher Matt Treanor. The team initiated talks with several clubs they felt were in the market for catchers.
Treanor, who underwent surgery on his left hip area after the season, is expected to be ready for Spring Training. Reports have already linked Treanor possibly heading to the Pirates or Tigers.
Entering his second season of arbitration, Treanor could make about $900,000 or $1 million, a price the Marlins don't seem to want to pay. John Baker has the edge to be the starting catcher. However, there is speculation from a league source that the Marlins are positioning themselves to pursue Ivan Rodriguez in free agency. Pudge, of course, was Florida's catcher on the 2003 World Series title team.

I have a feeling pirates are going to get him and send treanor and jack wilson to detroit for danny worth, luis marte, guillermo moscoso, and chris lambert thats my prediction.

Considering the Florida Marlins did not offer arbitration to Paul Lo Duca, the other good catcher on their roster, why would you trade Treanor?
Unless you think that minor league journeyman Paul Hoover is ready for a shot at the big times, there is no one else to sit behind the plate for the Fish.

Just crazy. It's one thing to be focused on hitting (even thought the Marlins say they are not), but you can't forget that a catcher needs to be able to catch. While Baker has proved himself good AT the plate, he is only FAIR behind the plate. Treanor is a much better catcher and valuable in the clubhouse. He was huge in helping Baker get prepared for the job. It will be sad to see him go.
