Cubs: DeRosa is staying put
The Twins are reportedly trying to become the third team in the Padres-Cubs talks regarding Jake Peavy, and have come up with a package of young players in hopes of luring Mark DeRosa from Chicago. But a Cubs source said Wednesday the versatile DeRosa is staying put and not going to be dealt.
The Cubs, Philies and Padres are still talking about a potential deal, but there is no timetable. There also is no pressure on the Cubs to get something done.

So this can officially be called the Brian Roberts rumor of 2008 / 09? Some new tidbit every 5 minutes that is then debunked 5 minutes later ... Will we be led by the nose all the way up until the season opener on these rumors?

Derosa's trade value may never be higher, do it...trade him!

I love Derosa. Would hate to see him go. He is so valuable - hitting , versatility, and never an off field problem. I want a LOT back for it to happen.

do not trade DeRosa. or at least not for Peavy. Peavy should not be at the top of our wish list, we need a lefty bat that can spark our lineup, maybe some bullpen help, and that's it. DeRosa is not going anywhere

I think trading DeRosa as part of a deal to get a pitcher is a bad idea. We don't need any more pitchers, we do need good hitters. Keep DeRosa!

DeRosa is a one season wonder! lopakamcm is right, his value is the highest it will ever be. As for needing a lefty bat to spark the lineup..........you have that in Fukudome. Remember him.....the starting right fielder in the 2008 All-Star game. Here is an idea, keep DeRosa, convert him to a right fielder and find a sucker team to take Fukudome off your hands!

Trading DeRosa right now makes sense. He is coming off his best year and we can get one of the top pitchers in baseball for him. If we can dump Marquis as well in the deal then it would be stupid not to do it. Then we would still have enough money to go get a guy like Bradley or someone else. Our pitching staff would be Peavy, Harden, Zambrano, Dempster, and Lilly. Who in the last ten years has had a staff as dominant as that one? We might only need to score 2 runs a game to win.

Keep Derosa trade Derek Lee and sign Mark Texieira.

I love DeRosa but you've got to give up something to get a Cy Young award winner. Throw in Pie, Marquis and Vitters (supposedly a great prospect but I've heard that one before!) and that is a good trade. DeRosa is the only guy who you'll miss, and I think Fontenot could put up solid numbers over a full season. I love the rotation of Zambrano, Peavy, Dempster, Lilly, Harden! (and Marshall in some spot starts to give guys a rest) That rotation plus whoever they get to play right field and the Cubs win the division for the third year in a row easy.

This may not be a Lou Brock deal but it tends to smell like it...
DeRosa is worth more than this...the Cubs did not get beat in the play - offs because of starting pitching, it was because some of the stars could not move a runner over, could not get a hit with men in scoring position and made errors or mental mistakes.....
