Braves not interested in Dunn
Contrary to a FOXSports.com report, the Braves aren't among the teams interested in Adam Dunn. The Web site reported Wednesday that the Braves, Mariners and Nationals are among the teams showing interest in the free-agent outfielder.
The Braves are seeking a right-handed (Dunn bats from the left side) outfielder that they can place between Chipper Jones (a switch hitter) and Brian McCann (a left-handed hitter) in the middle of their lineup.
Braves general manager Frank Wren is still attempting to satisfy this need via the trade market. There is a chance he might once again talk to the Cardinals about Ryan Ludwick. The Cardinals are interested in second baseman Kelly Johnson. But they aren't interested enough to satisfy Atlanta's request to package Ludwick with a mid-level Minor League prospect.

The proposed deal is for Johnson? I thought the Cardinals were more interested in a player they can control longer than Ludwick and that is actually good.
I could see adding another to the deal to get Escobar, but Johnson? He's an average 2B with average numbers. The Cardinals would be better off keeping Kennedy. At least he's a good defender.

I'm glad the Braves aren't interested. Adam Dunn is not the kind of player I want on my favorite team. He may hit 40 homers and drive in 100 runs but he strikes out a ton and plays below average defense. He is a complete rally killer just like Ryan Howard. Not to mention he is just plain expensive. There are much better and cheaper options out there.

KJ is better than just an average 2B. His offense picked up a ton towards the end of the season and his defense is getting better every year. He's a natural LF, and playing 2B is a bit difficult. He did a great job hitting out of the No. 3 hole the last few weeks while Chipper was on the mend and his power has grown each year. I'm glad we're not trading him for that reason. Escobar, on the other had, I wouldn't mind seening him go away for an ace. We have Vasquez now who is a work horse, plain and simple. Things are getting better. Hopefully GM Frank Wren will work some more magic.

hey flintrock23 kelly johnson is naturally a shortstop. do some research

Johnson is a natural shortstop. The Braves moved him to the outfield to utilize what was once thought to be the best swing of any of the Braves' minor league prospects. He is still slightly below average defensively in my opinion. He struggles going to his backhand side. He does have a great eye at the plate and the ability to hit for a good average with gap power(15-25 HR). I wouldn't want Ludwick because he hits for a low average. Plus this past year could have been an aberation. I think Escobar, who's in Bobby Cox's doghouse, if there is such a thing, will be gone. I wouldn't mind seeing us re-sign Renteria after trading Escobar for starting pitching or a right handed bat in the outfield. Go Braves!

KJ is a natural SS which is what the braves drafted him as and his feilding PCT. is .980 in 2008 compared to kennedy which is.981 and KJ is much better offesive player than kennedy and his average has climbed steadily over the past few seasons. he is young with developing power and has only played second base for 2 seasons.

jeez, hardblog. likely of a Braves fan to take a shot at the Phils, haha. Ryan Howard may strike out, but these numbers don't lie. Howard hit .251, a low average, but also had 48 home runs and 148 RBI's. (leading the league in both categories). the guy is a run machine, and often gets a spark going for the Phillies. the Braves could use a big bat in their lineup, and while it may not be Adam Dunn, i think that they should pursue other options. if the Cardinals want to throw Ryan Ludwick away, than hell, gobble him up =)

The Braves should explore a trade for Matt Kemp. He has a good average and his power numbers have gone up every year. In addition, he has very good speed. Of course the Braves would have to give up good talent in return but I think he would be a good fit in Atlanta.

let's not be so fast to ship Escobar out unless the price is high. he needs to mature like 95% of us did at that age and we weren't major league players in a country we never saw for most of our lives. if he goes i'd need to see Peavy in the deal.

I do not think the Ludwick deal would be good for us at all. I feel that he is going to be another Morgan Ensberg...BUST! Bring back Sheffield...or maybe not.

i am upset to see the braves not interested in dunn bc if u add him to a lineup with him chipper mccann and frenchy u got a lineup that can give murders row a run for its money. i dont see him striking out alot with T.p as his hitting coach.

Mr. Wren, if you happen to be reading, ha, do not trade KJ. He has very strong upside and is more valuable as a good hitting 2nd baseman than Escobar is at short. Replace Escobar with Renteria, and use YE to help get the top pitcher or LF you need. KJ is only going to get better. Escobar probably will too and also mature, (maybe) but over the next couple of years, it will be better to have pitching and a power hitting Leftfielder. Besides, he is just not the team player he needs to be right now.

The Padres got what they want and traded away Greene, look for them to come crawling back to the Braves! I don't see Furcal signing to play for them. Maybe Cabrera?

And to everyone Renteria is a Giant....rumored so he isn't on the market to 're-sign'

wel i wouldn't be interested in Adam Dunn either .i mean yeah he hits for huge POWER but he just has a low batting average and strikes out too much .i would rather see if the Braves could get Ludwick.

I usually don't blog, but here's the plan the Braves should push forward. First, the Braves need 70 homeruns from the outfielders to be a success. Second, they need a frontline ace from the starters and a consistent left handed starter (Jo-Jo's not cutting the mustard). Let's start with the outfield. The current slate of centerfielders/left fielders have absolutely no power. Sign Raul Ibanez ($8m for LF) and sign Jim Edmonds ($8-9m for CF). Ibanez is young and could man LF for years to come. Edmonds has age on him but he could handle CF with great defense until Jordan Schafer is major league ready. They are both lefthanded hitters so the Braves still need to address the lack of a righthanded power hitter. Trade Kelly Johnson/Jeff Francoeur (he's never shown his potential. He's had 3-1/2 seasons and hasn't lived up to it) to St. Loius for Ryan Ludwick. Though Ludwick hasn't consistently hit 34 hr's a year, he must be doing something right. Starting pitching is a dire need for the Braves. They have relied on young, unproven starters from the farm and it's just not working. Hopefully Burnett will sign w/ the Braves. Next, the Braves should sign Randy Wolf ($6m). He has been injured of late (as has Burnett), but he's a proven frontline lefthanded major league pitcher.
Starting Rotation - Burnett, Wolf, Vazquez, Campillo (till Hudson returns), and Jurrjens. Infield - Kotchman, Prado, Escobar, and Chipper. Outfield - Ludwick, Edmonds, and Ibanez. The Braves could do this and still stay within their salary limitations. Depending on arbitration outcomes, this put the Braves in the $105,000,000 payroll range. Oh, the Braves shold no even mention the Peavy for Escobar trade anymore. Not that I'm a huge fan of Escobar (I don't think his work ethic is major league level), but the Padres had there chance. I'm afraid the Padres may want to re-kindle the talks though after trading Khalil Greene. Why wouldn't they want a shortstop w/ Escobar's potential at just over the major league minimum salary. Plus, if the Braves did make the trade for Peavy, that prevents them from signing the consistent LH started they lack (remember Jo-Jo from above).
