Uggla, Hermida staying?

Never one to say never, but Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest on Tuesday sounded as if Dan Uggla and Jeremy Hermida would be back. Addressing the media after Florida completed a five-player trade with Washington, Beinfest noted the team is ready to move forward with Uggla at second base and Hermida in right field.

Beinfest spoke to reporters after the announcement of a five-player trade with Washington. The Marlins dealt pitcher Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham to the Nationals for infielder Emilio Bonifacio and two prospects.

In addressing the media, Beinfest talked about keeping the continuity up the middle of Hanley Ramirez and short and Uggla at second. Bonifacio will get his best look at third base, although he will get some time at second base and shortstop in Spring Training.

Cody Ross becomes the favorite to replace Willingham in left field, and indications are Hermida will return in right field. Cameron Maybin projects to be the starting center fielder.

Now that the marlins traded scott and willingham.Do you
think the marlins have any chance on signing the closer
Francisco Rodriguez ? because they had been talking about
resembling the bullpen.

Sources are telling me Uggla is going to Arizona for Tarcy and 2 mid prospects

hockeyispro-

What "sources" do you have, because the Marlins would ask for A LOT MORE in return for Uggla than Chad Tracy and two mid-level prospects...I call B.S....

Now I'm hearing Manny Ramirez to the Marlins is possible...

http://cityofchamps.wordpress.com/2008/11/11/manny-we-missed-you/

you know wat if the marlins trade uggla they will make a big mistake

@hoopsstar

those r just ppl making rumors to try to add excitement to the offseason. there is no reason or way the marlins will get manny ramirez. our payroll will only be around $35 million so that leaves no room for manny's expected $20-something million a year salary. We're trying to shed power not get an aging powerbat that would cost us what our entire salary was last year. the only reason we had a chance of trading for manny in the middle of the season was because the red sox would cover the rest of his salary.

the mets are the team who could really use uggla (besides pitching of course) castillo at 2nd base ? are you kidding me? what kind of move was THAT anyway ? didnt they give him a 3 year deal? its not like any one was beating down the door for his services. why not one year? what is he omar's cousin? they should eat that contract dump him and move on and im dreaming ok i would rather have anyone in place of that dead weight though. how old is felix millan these days just a thought

C- John Baker
1B- Gaby Sanchez
2B- Dan Uggla
SS- Hanley Ramirez
3B- Jorge Cantu
LF- Cody Ross
CF- Cameron Maybin
RF- Jeremy Hermida

As of right now, THAT would be the starting lineup for 2009...

From a Defensive standpoint.
/C- John Baker or Miguel Montero= Basically same as last year.
/1B- Gaby Sanchez= Huge upgrade over Jacobs.
/2B- Emilio Bonifacio= Big upgrade over Uggla
/SS- Hanley Ramirez= Same
/3B- Dan Uggla= Should be better at 3rd then Cantu
/LF- Jorge Cantu= Anything is an upgrade over Hammer
/CF- Cameron Maybin= Upgrade
/RF- Jeremy Hermida= Same

If your worried about offense. You still have three 30 HR guys in Hanley, Uggla and Cantu. Plus you got Hermida, Maybin and Sanchez that could all pop about 20 HRs. Baker and Montero will hit about 15 total and you still got Ross and McPherson on the bench. So the team is now much better on defense, has plenty of HR power. Has some guys like Maybin, Bonifacio, and Hanley that can run and steal bases. Plus guys that like Sanchez, Baker, Hanley and Maybin that can all move runners over. Much more balanced and better lineup then last year's thanks to the addition of guys like Bonifacio, Maybin, Sanchez and Montero.

Add in a solid BP and a great starting rotation and we are all set.

Catcher John Baker he did well last season, it is going to take a lot consideration for Fredi Gonzalez for a rookie catcher to beat him for the starting spot.
Catcher Brett Hayes
First Base Gaby Sanchez, vs. Jorge Cantu
Second Base Dan Uggla, Emilio Bonifacio, can be used as a late defensive replacement till they know what number in the lineup he fits in
Third Base Dallas McPherson the former power hitting Angels third baseman
Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, not like going to be like the Red Sox, where he should playing center field
Left Field, if you want Gaby Sanchez at first base, Jorge Cantu can play left field, if you want to keep his bat in. Gaby Sanchez gives flexibility because he gives the Marlins a third catcher or it will be Cody Ross, he hit 22 homeruns in 2008
Center Field Cameron Maybin
Right Field Jeremy Hermida
No. 1 Starter Ricky Nolasco, Fredi loves the fire in Ricky
No. 2 Starter Anibal Sanchez, he's a reliable No. 2 Starter with the stuff and command
No. 3 Starter Josh Johnson, Fredi likes the energy in J.J.
No. 4 Starter Andrew Miller, he is still trying to get the feel of the game he is only a half a season experience from 2007 and a full season experience from 2008
No. 5 Starter Chris Volstad solidifies the rotation from any wear and tear on the bullpen, he is a future No. 3 Starter with the stuff and command and control of all of his pitches.
Closer Matt Lindstrom he will bring the fire fastball and the slider in the ninth inning as he starts to earn more saves.
This team has already gotten everything figured out. And should win a bit more in the new season.
Lineup
SS Hanley Ramirez (speed with stolen bases)
CF Cameron Maybin (speed with stolen bases)
1B Jorge Cantu (Fredi likes to put him in the third spot)
3B Dallas McPherson (has the power to hit in the cleanup spot)
2B Dan Uggla (Fredi likes to put him in the fifth spot)
LF Cody Ross (who started in 2008 in center field will get the start in left field)
C John Baker (who is a solid hitter in the catcher's spot)
RF Jeremy Hermida (will be a better role model in the eighth spot)
SP Ricky Nolasco
Anibal Sanchez
Josh Johnson
Andrew Miller
Chris Volstad
This is the lineup for 2009, as of this day after the Nationals update. Spring Training comes next for the rookies.

Wow...
everyone can make assumptions and crazy guesses about who will start where and why...
the bottom line is Uggla IS expendable and this trade with the nationals is the reason why. Uggla is a .260 hitter with power but no disipline and is shotty on defence.
Gaby Sanchez will not start at 1B, but halfway through the year I do see him getting more starts. The marlins are interested to see what Dallas McPherson can do.

1B- Jorge Cantu
2B- Bonifacio (pending they trade Uggla if not Uggla starts)
SS- Hanley (anyone who thinks hanley moves to another position, your f-ing crazy)
3B- Dallas McPherson (pending his defence, he is be switched out for Sanchez moving Cantu to 3B)
LF-Cody Ross/Alejandro de Aza (Ross starting the season, de aza moving in if health)
CF-Cameron Maybin
RF-Jeremey Hermida
C-John Baker

SP Rotation will be fought between 9 players:
*Ricky Nolasco (Righty)
**Josh Johnson (Righty)
***Andrew Miller (Lefty)
****Chris Volstad (Rigty)
*****Anibel Sanchez (Righty)
*****Sean West (Lefty)
Burke Baedenhop (Righty)
Rick Vandenhurk (Righty)
Aaron Thompson (Lefty)
(this is all pending additional aquisitions)

CF- Cameron Maybin
C- John Baker
SS- Hanley Ramirez
1st- Jorge Cantu
3rd- Dan Uggla
RF- Jeremy Hermida
LF- Cody Ross
2B- Emilio
P

So far that is our best lineup

yes finally someone has the right lineup (thank you marlinsnumbr1), the organization loves john baker hitting 2nd and cody ross is playing left field who is much better than willingham and can put up the type of power numbers. also emilio and maybin will switch at the leadoff spot depending whether its a lefty or righty pitching
