Twins submit framework of an offer for Blake

Jim McDowell, the agent for third baseman Casey Blake, said Friday afternoon that he'd already heard from the Twins on the first day that free agents could sign with other clubs.

"We received a framework of an offer from the Twins this morning, discussing concepts and certain ranges and things like that," McDowell said. "We agreed that we would talk some more and that's where we are with them."

The Twins were one of seven teams that had already expressed interest in Blake, who batted .274 with 21 homers and 81 RBIs for the Indians and Dodgers last season. But according to McDowell the number of interested teams is now up to eight.

Blake made $6.1 million last year and other reports have indicated he could be seeking a three-year deal. McDowell did not discuss the details of what the Twins submitted to him on Friday, but the expectation is that it's a starting off point for the two sides.

"Right now we have an idea of what they are thinking and where they would like to go with it," McDowell said. "We'll get back to them with our thoughts as well. If that is the situation that makes the most sense, then we'll get something done."

It's about time we see the Twins trying to improve their offense and provide Mauer and Morneau with some powerful protection.

The Twins need a bat like Blake. It would allow them to rid themselves of Punto, and make either Harris or Tolbert the Utility. Maybe even have them platoon at short, or go after a shortstop via trade. Signing Blake would be a step in the right direction.

it be better if we got atkins
