Pavano attracting 'significant interest'
Carl Pavano's agent, Tom O'Connell, said on Friday morning there is "significant interest" in the services of the 32-year-old right-hander, who recently didn't have his option year picked up by the Yankees.
Without giving a ballpark number in teams lining up for Pavano, O'Connell acknowledged that the Marlins are a possibility. At the recent GM meetings, O'Connell had discussions with Florida officials about Pavano, who was with the Marlins from 2002-04.
Pavano has a close friendship with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and the Marlins front office, dating back to their days with the Montreal Expos.
"Obviously, we're in the very, very beginning stages," O'Connell said, noting that he didn't have any midnight phone calls.
Another right-hander on the Marlins radar is six-year free agent Zach McClellan, who has some big league experience. McClellan has been in the Rockies system.
