Nationals shopping for hitters

According to The Boston Globe, citing a Major League source, Nationals general manager Jim Bowden has called numerous teams to ask about the availability of their best hitters. MLB.com has reported about the mutual interest between Mark Teixeira and Washington for the switch-hitting first baseman to return to nearby where he grew up. But the Nats are just one among a very long list of teams shopping for Teixeira, so acquiring a hitter via trade may be a more suitable option.

As a team, Washington hit just .251 last year while being 15th in the National League in home runs (117) and RBIs (608).

The team has also been linked to free agent Adam Dunn, though the Nationals seem to be set at the corner outfield positions, with Elijah Dukes, newly acquired Josh Willingham, Lastings Milledge, Willy Mo Pena and Austin Kearns. Center field, first base and second base sure could use an upgrade, though.

The Nationals need Teixeira bad, but I don't think he wants to go to a team that has almost no chance of making the playoffs. The Nationals have a few nice pieces but not enough to make a run in a very competitive National League. They may be able to offer a ton of money but I think Tex will consider if the team can win or not. I think the Angels and Red Sox are the best options at this point.

Couldn't Adam Dunn be considered a 1st baseman.

Yea he could be considered a first basemen but I don't think he played much first base last year. If that is the case that may factor into it. Personally I think Adam Dunn is one of the most overrated players in the game.

That's what I was thinking; Dunn at First. And he's overrated in Fantasy. He's hit exactly 40 home runs over the past four seasons and is still pretty young. The Nationals need power, and I know that Willingham isn't going to give it him. Dunn can anchor that line up in the #4 spot and take pressure of Jesus Flores and Ryan Zimmerman. They have the money to spend, so either Teixeira or Dunn would be in the realm of possibility. I agree in that I don't think Teixeira is going to Washington. They need to be a little more developed like the Rays were before last season.

Texeria has stated he wants to go to a contender which leaves out the Orioles & Nats. Dunn would be more realistic for the Nats. I suffered through all 3 Washington Senator teams and I assure you Texeria will not go there. BTW, anyone that hits 40 HR,s a year is not overrated.

Thank you you give me a player that hits 40 HRs a year and close to if not more than 100 RBIs a year and i guarantee you someone fill find a spot for him...that kind of talent is not overrated.

Adam Dunn is overrated. You are taking into consideration only home runs and runs batted it. Did you consider his 164 strikeouts? What about the fact that he has zero speed and has below average defensive range and an average arm? What about the fact that he hit only about .235 last year? What about the fact that he will cost about 15 million dollars? Sure, he will put up big power numbers, but that is it. He is an all or nothing player. If you care about more than just home runs and runs batted in then yes he is overrated.
