Matsui to Mariners?
A report out of Colorado said the Mariners, Yankees and Rockies have discussed a three-way trade that would send outfielder Hideki Matsui to Seattle for a starting pitching prospect, possibly left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith. The Yankees would then send the pitcher and second baseman Robinson Cano, and another young player, to the Rockies for outfielder Matt Holliday.
A Mariners official downplayed the rumor, according to the Seattle Times, but if Seattle loses left fielder Raul Ibanez to free agency, Matsui would seem to be a potential replacement in left field.
However, the pitcher going to New York could be left-hander Jarrod Washburn and not Rowland-Smith. Both Matsui, who has a full no-trade clause, and Washburn are entering the final years of their current contracts for $13 million and $10.35 million, respectively.
The Yankees were one of the teams that expressed interest in Washburn leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

DBspaulding and charlietuna11, please read the article. The Yankees would not be getting Washburn, it is a 3 way trade where the Yankees get Washburn, then send him to the Rockies for Matt Holliday. I think that wouldn't be so bad, Nady, Holliday, and Damon in the Outfield. We would need to get an infielder and a DH (Manny?).

Matt Holliday in left, GARDNER IN CENTER, Nady in right.
Damon is best served as the DH in the leadoff spot. We can't take the chance of him starting in Centerfield and then getting injured again! The addition of Texiera with Alberto Gonzalez at 2nd or Cody Ransom would upgrade our speed and defense incredibly. Cashman has stated that he would love to build the team on pitching, speed and defense. The hitting will fall into place with this kind of power packed lineup. Peavy, Wang, AJ Burnett, Joba and Pettite or Hughes would be an awesome rotation. All this for the cost of Peavy, Burnett and Texiera. With over 80 million freed up, this would become a done deal. I never liked CC in the American league. I believe that he is a flash in the pan with the Brewers as the NL did not see him pitch previously.

Pull the trigger on this deal. It sounds to me like Hudson is somewhere included in the plans also.

I feel like that would be the wrong move!!! You can't give up on Cano after one bad year. Bring Orlando Hudson here is not the answer (not even for Holliday). Anyone remember Tony Womack??? Give me a break. I feel like getting Holliday is the last resort. The guy is a free agent after the year, so then you have to sign him to an extension. Did we not just go through this with Johan Santana??? What makes Holliday so much more special then Santana?! I say we need to go after "SIGN" C.C, Teixeira, and possibly another pitcher. I believe Cano is going to break out, and have a monster year....why break up the core. If you want to trade a couple of minor-leaugers and Melky...that's find. Cano would be a huge mistake. Don't forget, he is only 25yrs old. And Hughes is only 22yrs old. You got to hold on to these guys. Get players from free agency first...then if need be, go make a trade (LAST RESORT)!!!!!!!

While I like Holliday and it's tempting to have him in the Yankees line-up, I would not give up Robby. I know people will think I'm crazy, but this kid is good, he just needs a good a** kicking sometimes. The first years that he was there proved how outstanding he is. To get rid of Robby, they'd probably have O-Dog (Orlando Hudson) on their radar, and I just feel like that's a bad move. Orlando is a decent player, but he's lost much of what he used to have when he played for the Jays. Going after him would be a mistake like it was when Womack was a Yankee. I'm sure the Yankees could try to make a different package to try and get Holliday, but it'll take work, and I just don't think the Yankees have what it takes.
They SHOULD have pulled that deal for Johan and I don't care what people say. Although people may say that he didn't do anything for Mets, they're wrong. I watched many of the Mets games when Johan pitched and many of those games were NOT his fault. Their bullpen or hitting couldn't get it done. Besides, it doesn't take one player to get the job done and Rollins will tell you that.
Why couldn't the Mariners take Johnny instead? I dislike him more than anything. He's not a good fit for the Yankees at all. If the Yankees don't trade him (highly unlikely), I'll be so happy when he can finally leave at the end of the '09 season.

As my sn says i am a huge yankee fan. I say get rid of matusi he hasnt done anything good for the team. He didnt liveup to his name here in america. Holliday isnt the answer though we need pitching our offense is fine. Bring in Texeriand maybe another bat but go and sign CC, nd trade Matusi. My advice is go and try to get Tim Linceum from the giants. We have the money to pay these guys so lets use it. We do need a better CF but we got some young talent in the outfield so lets use it. Main goal is to win and well they got do whatever it takes. Even sign manny who cares, just win.

Of course this could be a rumor..if not: I feel this would be a huge mistake. In effect the Yankee's would be trading Robby Cano, Hideki Matsui and a prospect for Matt Holliday! Matsui's production alone matches up well with Holliday's and Holliday's production drops off away from Colorado. Matsui is also along with Jeter the most professional and unselfish hitter on the team. I also expect Cano to rebound next year. I also see rumors that Hughes and others could be considered in a deal for Holliday. The front office committed to Hughes last year and need to follow through. I don't see Holliday as being an answer for the Yankees. I also like Matsui as a left handed dh...moreso than I like Damon in the same role. Of course without Damon they would need to find a leadoff hitter. Could Gardner fill that role? That would be a huge question mark to go into the season with. Could Cameron fill that role? Another question mark. I don't envy Cashman the decisions he needs to make after missing the playoffs and with the junior moron breathing down his neck.

Holliday is a nice player but is overrated. Outside of Coors, his numbers are solid but nothing spectacular. Additionally, it is ridiculous to trade players with long term value for a one year rental who would not even fill the Yankees needs right now. Cano is a potential batting champion. Anyway, as per ESPN, the Cardinals are in the lead to trade for Holliday using Ludwick in the deal. I don't understand why such a lateral move would be made but whatever. I hear names like Washburn and Cameron and wonder to myself, are the Yankees really that devoid of scouting ability and do they actually follow the players they show interest in? Oliver Perez has had great stuff but yet has posted 6+ eras a couple of times and yet you hear about the Yankees considering him knowing that it will cost a few years and about 8 figures. Jeff Weaver was supposed to have great stuff. I will take a performed over a great stuff guy any day.

After a season of horrible hitting in the clutch, why would you trade one of your (when healthy) best run producers on the team? Let Matsui DH, let Damon, Gardner and Abreu or Nady play the outfield, next year let Damon go and get Holliday as a free agent. Hopefully some of Damon's knowledge rubs off on Gardner/Jackson and we have an in house CF/lead off man by 2010.

MATT HOLLIDAY ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I WOULD NOT TRADE MATSUI STRAIGHT UP FOR HIM.HEY A RIGHT HAND HITTER WHO HITS FOR A LITTLE POWER,AND IT IS IN COLORADO HUMIDIFIER BALLS OR NOT ITS STILL A HITTERS PARK.YANKEE STADIUM NOT A PARADISE FOR R.H. HITTERS.HE WOULD BE ANOTHER BUST,HE JUST DOESN'T FIT.I'M NOT AGAINST TRADING MATSUI,WHEN HEALTHY HE IS A PLUS,BUT THE YANKS ARE GETTING OLD,A LOT OF MID THIRTY GUYS.MY IDEAS,SIGN EITHER ANDY OR MIKE TO A 1 YEAR CONTRACT AT ABOUT 10M.TRADE FOR A MID ROTATION STARTER,DON'T RAPE THE SYSTEM FOR A STAR.FORGET CC LOOK AT HIM,HE SHOULD JOIN JENNY CRAIG OR WEIGTWATCHERS'HE WILL NOT LAST 5 MORE YEARS.THE BEST FIT FOR THE YANKS IS ADAM DUNN,MAKE HIM A FIRST BASEMEN.YOU WILL GET 50HR 150RBI AND YES 150+SO BUT HE IS BY FAR BETTER THEN RYAN HOWARD.THIS TO ME IS A NO BRAINER.THANK YOU

Trying to get pitchers Rowland-Smith or Washbrn from Seattle make no sense to me; the only Seattle pitcher the Yankees should go after is Felix Hernandez.

Hideki Matsui is not a free agent, so I cannot understand why he is even being considered in a trade to the Mariners. Matsui's current contract is through 2009, and he has a no trade clause in he contract with the Yankees. Matsui has always stated that the only team the he wants to play for is the Yankees, and after the 2009 season, the Yankees will sign him for a new contract.

I stand by my post on November 23rd. Hideki Matsui is NOT a free agent. His present contract is through 2009, and Matsui only want to play for the Yankees. At the end of 2009, he will be resigned for a new contract to play for the Yankees,
