Is Nick Johnson on trade block?
A baseball source confirmed on Wednesday that the A's have Nick Johnson's medical records, but the two clubs have not talked about making a trade -- yet.
The news was first reported by FOXSports.com. The source also said that several other teams have Johnson's medical records. The Nationals would not confirm that such a transaction between them and the A's took place.

As a life long Brooklyn born Yankee fan living in San Diego, and Padres season ticket holder for the last 10 years, I want to add my two cents in. The Yankees should stick with the game plan of continued rebuilding of the farm system and developing the crop of young talent. The Phillies and Rays have just proven this is the way to build a world series class franchise, and this is the way the Yankees dominated back in the 90's with Mo - Petitte - Posada - Jeter, etc. I can say however if they can sign CC as a free agent - go for it... Burnett more than a 3 year deal is too risky, and Lowe at 35 is reaching an age where you don't know ho much he has left in the tank - so short term deal maybe 3 years is what I'd offer at best. I must say, though watching Jake Peavy pitch the last couple of years in person, this guy is a winner, a damn bulldog, and pitches for a team that gives zero run support. He is a gamer and on a team like the Yankees he'd be a guaranteed 20 + a year winner for years to come. At 27 years old and a former CY YOung winner, he has plenty in the tank, and no history of arm problems. This is one guy out of the whole bunch that I would make a trade for. He's a pressure guy - no Ed Whitson, he could handle NY. so in this case if you got to give up a Hughes/Kennedy and prospect to land him - I say go for it.... They wouldn't be trading for a real old player, and he'd pay off right now, and at his current contract of 63 mil... it would be a steal compared to what CC and Burnett want....
Go Yanks...

Art... if we traded for PEavy he would want a contract extension ASAP. This is why we didn't go after Santna. He would have cost us prospects and a contract extension. I don't think Peavy is a better pitcher then Santana. I believe that Phil Hughes is going to be a stud! He is still only 22 yrs old. I don't know if you saw the Braves offered for Peavy and the Pad's shut them down. I don't think the Yankees could pull it off. I think if Hughes and Cano is not involved then yes....go get him and give him an extension. And of course go get C.C. Then you have no need for Burnett and you would have 3 number 1's (C.C, Peavy, Wang) I think that would work...but at what cost?

Art,
The develop from within philosophy continues, but in the interim the fans demand we be more competitive than we were in 2008. We'll sell out the new stadium in 2009, but if we're not a playoff caliber team there will be a drop off in 2010 and beyond.
What do you hear about Peavy's willingness to play in New York? I constantly hear that his addition of the Yankees to the teams he will accept a trade is only a $ ploy and that he would be unhappy in NY.

The Nationals definitely need to rebuild. Trading Nick Johnson for a few nice prospects that can play now or soon would be a good idea. They have some decent pieces like Zimmerman and a few others. Trading Johnson and trying to get some younger pieces wouldn't be a bad idea since I don't feel like they can really compete any time soon.

I think the first thing we have to do is be honest with ourselves . Wang is not a no.1. Not even close! At best he's a no.2 or 3. Tradinding for Peavy would be an excellent move. At this point I would give Sabathia one week after Thanksgiving to give the yanks an answer, after that I would move on. I just think he's being ridiculous about this and if the angels want to make him an offer of say 120-140 million I say good riddance. I still believe no matter what we do with the pitching I believe if , we want to win now and later get MANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One more point , Hughes nor cano would be any part of the trade.

aliboye20,
Peavy is signed for three more years at around twelve mill a year. So you wouldn't have to give him an extension for a few years. Plus he is 27 Santana is 33. As for Sabathia he can't pitch under preasure! He has a career 6.14 era in three starts in the playoffs and the same amount of walks as strike outs in those three games! Plus he is over weight and has thrown over five hundred innings the last two years. I wouldn't break the bank on him. Santana is alot better pitcher that Sabathia and Peavy is as good as Santana so I would say he is a better option.

red sox nation,
as i`ve stated before, THEO EPSTEIN works outside the circle as well as what he personnally knows what`s already in front of him as far as free agents ,etc. .
theo epstein keeps things close to his vest. look what`s happened so far. a japanese who shows promise for the red sox. it`s there`s to he idea of shock and awe,yet it comes to theo epstein being a great general manager. knowing when to hold them and knowing when to fold them. i see c.c. sabathina has not signed with the yankees yet!!. yet means to me, the red sox. how about andy sonnanstine of the tampa bay? after all, it just comes down to gun fodder. it`s very interesting and fun, but again the reality is a young unproven japanese arm, and the player traded for coco crisp, reliever ramon ramirez. oh, if theo wants a bat (mark texiera, roco balddelli as a 4th outfielder. theo epstein will get what the red sox need. viz. a`viz ramirez for coco. ted dusablon

Lt. Bell here from Hiram, Ga. But born and raised in Brooklyn, NY I 'll always love my Yankees I would love for the Yankees to go after Jake Peavey,CC,and Lowe(at a 3yr deal)keep hughes and Wang what a line up. Have chamberlin in the bull pin (set up ) and Mo at the closer. We will win the east and the WS. Our hitting line up should be as followed Damon,Jeter,A Rod,Rameriz,Matsui,Posada,Cano,Giambi and the DH Bonds
Boy that is the dream line up.A lot of runs will be scored. We need to put the fear of facing the Yankees back. That how we can do it.Who would want to face this team with those line ups who ? Bring it on.

WOW, only a group of Yankee's fans can turn a blog about the Nats and A's into a discussion (dreams) about the upcoming season. You guys are ridiculous. You're time has past. Once Jeter and Mariano retire the Yankees will be at the bottom of the division. Oh wait, they were right with O's this year :) Oh man I can't even begin to comment on your fantasy replies. It kills me. Have fun dreaming on here because once April hits it will be a long season for Yankee's fans. Maybe you should take the subway to Shea and root on the Mets...

I am hoping Brian Cashman is caught up with his sleep. He has a lot of work to do this week. In addition to pitching, he must get Mark Texiera to fill the #3 slot in the order and tighten up our defense. Texiera playing for the Red Sox is not acceptable. A trade for Peavy is an excellent idea although I would hold off on giving up Hughes or Phil Coke. Manny has to be considered as with him and Texiera, the Yanks would score 1000 runs. That puts them in the World Series.
