D-backs eye second basemen

The all but certain departure of free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson has the D-backs looking at possible alternatives. With less than $10 million to spend this offseason, look for the club to try and sign a free agent such as Ramon Vazquez and/or trade for Cardinals second baseman Adam Kennedy.  -- Steve Gilbert

i'd love to trade kennedy to the d-backs. especially if it meant we got stephen drew.

how about this trade, robinson cano for justin upton

Have you HEARD of Justin Upton? Do you really think anybody with an IQ over 6 would trade Upton for Cano? I wouldn't take 3 Canos for Upton. Never a chance in the real world. Never. Never. Never.

Drew for Kennedy? Have you HEARD of Stephen Drew? For Kennedy? Again, insanity prevails.

2 guys who DO NOT GET TRADED until they are well past 30 under any circumstances? Drew & Upton. They ARE the Arizona DBacks, now and for the next 5-6 years, minimum.

People, people, people. THINK before posting! =)

How about Kelly Johnson for Max Scherzer. Scherzer is a great pitcher which the D-backs have a lot, and Kelly can hit and play a normal slighty below average second base especially when compared to the O-dog. But Kelly can carry a team, that's how much he can hit, and he is getting better every year both offensively, and defensively. I view it as a fair deal for both sides. Think about it, why did the D-back lose the division, no hitting, in fact the only team that has a respectable offense in the nl west is the rockies. The Dodgers will not retain Manny, so they're back to playing 1-0 baseball again.

Why don't they try and trade the brewers for Ricky Weeks?

Scherzer for Kelly Johnson? You are nuts. Max throws in the upper 90's, had a decent start to his big league career, can strike out anyone, anytime. And starting pitching is hard to come by. I love Kelly Johnson, but carry a team? What are you talking about??? While I think he is a 20/20 guy, that does not carry a team. And he has knee problems. I would love to have Kelly Johnson on the Dbacks, but never for Scherzer.

Knee problems? What the hell are you talking about? He has only been in the DL one time in his career, and that was when he had Tommy John Surgery. And he did carry this team when he got hot in september, and May. In May the braves won 17 games(1 of 2 winning months), he hit 355AVG, 2HR, 11 2B, 2 3B, 14RBI's, 392 OBP, and a 581SLG,in a lineup that had Texeira, and Chipper Jones. In september the braves won 13 games(2 of 2 winning months), he hit 398AVG, 3HR, 19RBI's, with a 429OBP, 643LG, 9 2B, and 3 3B. 39 hits. Without Chipper, Texeira, and Escobar for a large portion of the month. Omar Infante, or Casey Kotchman were the ones to protect him. Trust me he can carry a team, and I a big fan of the Braves, don't want a trade him. But if we get someone like Cain, Scherzer, Ludwick, Liriano, Scott Baker, or someone like those premier young players. The D-backs have enough pitching in a division were there is no hitting, Webb, Haren, Randy Johnson, Petit, Davis, and Scherzer. Obviously they won't trade Webb, or Haren, so Scherzer, and maybe Conor Jackson are the only players that the Braves have interest. Wouldn't you want Kelly, and Conor back to back, while Kelly hits 325AVG, 25HR, 100RBI's, and 49 2B. I know he can put up those numbers.

D-Backs should try to trade for Robinson Cano

Wow, so most of the people commenting on this definitely aren't Arizona fans. There is absolutely no way the front office would trade upton OR drew OR scherzer. or any of our other young players, for that matter. Our minor leagues have been completely tapped. The diamondbacks will be buying a second baseman, end of story.

How about signing Craig Counsel for 2nd base. He's no home run hitter like Dunn(what home runs???) but he's one of the most consistent playing players. I'll take a base hit all the time over 1 home run at 40 times at bat. He is a great 2nd baseman.

Better idea Robinson Cano for Miguel Montero.

Oh and dont forget to trade E. Brynes to NYM and sign Chad Codero 4.5m 4 years

The Diamondbacks have Mark Hallberg, a second baseman prospect that could prove to be a success. He continues to prove himself and has success in every league of his career. Mark Hallberg was recently selected as the Hawaiian Winter League MVP and batted .367 overall. All Star already in two leagues -short A and Hawaii. He is a Florida State Alum like Stephen Drew. Great College career as Louisville Freshman Alll-american, All ACC, All Atlanic Region and All-American. Toughest Batter to Strikeout in NCAA Division I in 2006 and plays a great defense.
