Cubs reported interested in Royals' Teahen

Now that the Cubs have signed pitcher Ryan Dempster to a new deal, they're looking for a left-handed bat and that could mean the Royals' Mark Teahen, according to a report in the Kansas City Star.

The newspaper speculated that the Cubs might be willing to trade center fielder Felix Pie to the Royals, enabling David DeJesus to move permanently to left field. The Royals also are looking for a middle infielder to pair with Mike Aviles, meaning shortstop Ronny Cedeno or second baseman Mike Fontenot could be in a possible deal.

Teahen, who has played mostly the outfield the last two seasons after switching from third base, batted .255 last season with 15 homers and 59 RBIs.

I sure hope that the Cubs aren't considering Teahen, especially not for Mike Fontenot. First, with our need for lefty bats, giving up one of our better LH hitters in Fontenot makes no sense. Plus, Fontenot had close to the stats Teahen did in limited play. Also, look at Teahen's K totals from last year. I would not look foward to watching our corner outfielders K 300 times between Teahen and "swing whether its close or not" Soriano. It is frustrating enough watching Soriano swing at everything from a foot over his head, to bouncing 20 ft in front of the plate!!

if the cubs are going to sign a outfielder that doesnt hit for avg and strikes out alot they might as well sign adam dunn.
atleast he will hit 40hr and 100rbi's a year he also has a career obp over .380 and his strike numbers are going down and he walks about 100 times a year. i know it is a weaker outfielding option but the offense has major up side
(what lineup should look like if could get adam dunn)
1.ryan theriot
2.alfonso soriano
3.adam dunn
4.aramis ramirez
5.derrek lee
6.geovany soto
7.mark derosa
8.kosuke fukudome
9.pitcher

I don't think the Cubs should be going after Teahen at all. Right idea. Right division. Wrong team and player. With Zumaya's 2009 status up in the air the Tigers are in dire need of relief pitching. That is why I propose a trade of RP Chad Gaudin for OF Marcus Thames. Similar basic idea except that Thames guarantees more power while Teahen only has the potential to hit for a bit higher of an average. Plus we wouldn't have to give up nearly as much to get him. Thames can also play both corner OF positions as well as both corner IF positions.
